In the following days I'll be uploading photos from an early morning shoot I did in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi on the 22nd of March 2008. Most of you will remember a storm that terrorized the Gulf Coast region and threatened to destroy life here as we know it. Unfortunately, though Weather Channel host Jim Cantore was stationed in Gulfport awaiting the storm's landfall which arrived West of him near the Waveland-Bay St. Louis area, the great majority of media outlets only give attention to New Orleans.
My heart and my sympathy go out to the people of New Orleans whose levee system failed, creating a tragedy - most certainly it does. But I'm here today to tell you - and to show you - that the heart of Mississippi is still broken. The once proud main street of Bay St. Louis still looks like a ghost town as you'll see from my photos. I do hope you'll be as stricken by them as I was. I'm not asking you to give any of your money or time here.
I simply want acknowledgment, as one among thousands of Mississippians who stood in her house as it flooded, that Katrina was here, too. And perhaps a moment of silence for those who found the storm surge stronger than their ability to hang on.
Devious Comments
I will anxiously await your photos - and keep your Mississippi countrymen in my thoughts.

I was hoping not to detract from the tragedy in New Orleans but to illuminate the ongoing struggle here. From your reply I believe I was successful. Thank you so much for your understanding and your thoughts.
i completely understand. sometimes i think there's a bit of "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" ... the pity is that everyone's sympathy focuses there to such a great extent, other places in equal need get overlooked ... and they end up looking shallow and whiny when they call for help too.
I'm sure your journal will go a way towards dispelling that notion.
